MO-MEN-TUM

27.6–20.9.2020
Lithic Alliance

Lithic Alliance deals with the potentiality of geological environments, the relationships they are engaged with and produced by, as well as their ontological significance in the creation of systems. The project, initiated by artist Daniel V. Keller, engages with the lithosphere as an active agent in the construction of these relationships.  In reference to Robert Smithson’s “fluvial entropy”, the piece MO-MEN-TUM, comissioned for Gasträume 2020 - an art in public space project initiated by the city of Zurich- focuses on the entropy of our built environment. This rammed sand volume gradually disintegrates during the three months of the project, subject to external influences such as weather or the actions of passers-by. This process of deconstruction will be initiated by the vibrations of an acoustic performance by artist Nicolas Buzzi.
